Ahh I haven't shaved my legs! And other things your Massage Therapist is not judging you for.

“I’m so sorry, I haven’t shaved my legs!” I have heard variations of this sentence from so many clients and I want to set the record straight now.

I solemnly swear, as your massage therapist, I am not judging how smooth your legs are, whether they are shaved or not shaved - that is none of my business. Please never apologise for your body. The most important thing for me, is that you are comfortable and have the best possible experience.

Now, as a woman, I completely get that we have these feelings of worry about our legs being smooth, I mean we’ve been brought up to think body hair is terrible! (and that’s a whole other topic I can’t get into right now!). Before I became a massage therapist, I also had a massage and spent the entire time lying on the table thinking, oh god why didn’t I shave my legs. But now I realise, that the massage therapist was probably more concerned about how tense my muscles were and wanted to try and relax me.

This is your massage, it is about you. If you feel more comfortable with shaved legs, of course - shave your legs. But please, do not ever think I am judging you, or expect you to have them shaved, especially when you might have other things on your mind, like trying to stay awake, and look after your baby when they have kept you up all night.

While we’re on this topic, please don’t worry if you snore (I always wake myself snoring when I have a face massage), if your stomach gurgles, you burp or “pass wind” (I had to google the best ways to write about flatulence and settled for this!”).  All of these bodily functions are natural and are expected as your body relaxes. It’s doing all the things it’s meant to do!

So hopefully this reassures you.

Your massage therapist doesn’t mind if you fall asleep, snore, pass gas, or burp. Your body is relaxing and your mind will follow, so just enjoy!
