What to expect from your first massage

You’ve booked your first appointment - brilliant, I look forward to meeting you. (Thank you for choosing me, I genuinely do a happy dance whenever someone supports my small business!)

So what to expect at your first massage appointment? And by this, I mean what to expect when you have an appointment with me. So whether you have never had a massage before or it’s your first time at Sophie Wynne Wellness Massage, let me give you some more information.

Firstly my treatment room is based in my home. I will send you full details of my address and parking details, along with the consultation form for you to complete before arrival.

My treatment room has a bathroom attached to it, so if you need to use the facilities, check your hair after your treatment, etc you are most welcome. Also for any pregnant clients (I remember always needing to know there was a toilet close by!) please know, that if you need to stop during the massage to use the bathroom that is absolutely fine. It’s important that you feel comfortable throughout!

At the beginning of our appointment, we will talk through your consultation form. This gives me a good overview of you, your medical history, and the key areas you would like me to focus on during the treatment. We will discuss the type of massage you would like, and pressure preferences, then I will talk you through our plan so I can ensure the massage is tailored to you. Finally, you can pick you’re preferred massage wax or oil to ensure you’re happy with the smell!

Once we have discussed the treatment I will leave you to undress and get ready on the massage table under the blankets/towels provided. In terms of how much clothing to remove, this is completely up to you, just make sure you’re comfortable. I would say ideally all clothing except underwear, to ensure it is easier for me to access the soft tissue muscles, but again this is about your comfort level.

I have a heated blanket to ensure you are lovely and warm while receiving the massage. It helps warm your muscles and relax them but also just feels lovely! The blanket has different options so if I need to adjust the temperature or turn it off completely that’s also fine. I have a bolster I can put under your knees or ankles which will help take the pressure off your back, I also have extra pillows if you need them. For clients breastfeeding or larger chested, I can put small rolled-up towels under your shoulders to ensure you’re comfortable on your front, alternatively, I can massage side lying or seated.

Once I know you’re happy, I’ll dim the lights, make sure the music is at the right volume, and begin!

I’ll check the pressure is correct a couple of times during the massage but please do speak up if you’re uncomfortable at any stage or would like the pressure adapted.

Now switch off and enjoy!

Once the massage is finished, I’ll leave you to get ready and give you a glass of water. You can book another appointment if you wish, or do this on my online scheduler at a later date.

If all this sounds good to you, go ahead and book an appointment!
